Their goal is to steal electronic filing identification numbers (EFINs). According to the IRS, these emails ask you to verify your EFIN before filing. If you receive these emails or other solicitations, delete them, block the sender, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ic3.gov\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s2\">report it here<\/span><\/a>. Know that the IRS never requests immediate payment or financial information via phone or email. The agency only sends notices by mail.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h2 class=\"p3\">Phone Scams<\/h2>\n<p class=\"p1\">Phone scammers have been known to threaten victims to pay an outstanding bill or will report them to immigration services or the IRS. Again, the IRS does not contact people through these manners.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Phishing scammers also use:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">Weblinks containing malware and words referring to COVID-19 aid or stimulus checks.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Social media photos that trick users into giving information to supposed \u00abtrustworthy friends and family.\u00bb<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">Fake charities with names similar to genuine charities asking for your personal information and donations.
